vintage wells index small milling machines

It is a pretty "tight" machine and my 13" 1947 Leblond Regal will provide my "play" money for the Index 745. I got the manual and have been reading but the diagrams are for younger eyes than mine--will have to look at the drawngs with my Optivisor. I am convincing myself to take the plunge.

I haven't owned a Wells Index #40H but before that was Index. This is stuff from reading on Practical Machinist and combining it with UKlathes information. Banks & Buxton was between Index and Wells index on the model 40. Much info you read may be for Banks & Buxton and that may relate to a bearing retainer.

This is more milling over here and again another one of my work horse machines is my Wells Index Knee Mill. This thing is used all the time, if I could only have two machines in my shop, it would be um a good lathe and a good milling machine. That's just because you use them all the time. A good friend of mine is a big Monarch fan. He owns a 16" Monarch (1936 vintage), a 12.5" Monarch(1940's), a 24" x 78" SouthBend (1970 model year), a 9" SouthBend (model A), a 20" or so Midland Turret Lathe (huge, heavy machine, supposedly from government surplus). Monarchs are by far one of the best built lathes you can buy.

Wells Index Milling Machine Information. Thinking about buying this as a step up from my Clausing 8520 mill. I know this about the Wells, it has an 8" x 30" table, uses B&S #9 tooling, power feed on quill and x axis on table. Does anybody here have any experience with this particular mill?
